A day in St Germain des Pres

Photographer: Mon amour

A DAY IN ST GERMAIN DES PRES. It felt almost surreal to be back in Paris after almost a two year travel break due to Covid-19. I had been thinking about it for quite some time, what it would feel like, walking through the streets, gazing up on all the beautiful building and monuments and it felt just as magical as I had thought it would be. This city truly is something else, you can’t compare it to any other city. It was a given that Johan and I found a hotel in St Germain des Pres to stay at during our trip

One of my favourite places in the area is Debauve & Gallais, a French Royally appointed chocolatier in business for over 210 years. Debauve & Gallais has been expressing its passion for chocolate through its unique creations whose subtle flavours are constantly praised. In 1817 maison Debauve & Gallais establishes its premises in Rue des Saints-Pères and is never to move out again. The new premises include vast workshops and a boutique whose decoration was undertaken by architects Percier et Fontaine. And the chocolate, my oh my, it is truly divine.

Another place in the area that Johan and I really enjoy coming back to is Le Hibou located on 16 Carr de l’Odéon, 75006 Paris. Perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or a cocktail in the evening. Another one of our go to places we always went to every morning when we lived here back in 2013 was Eric Kayser, our local boulangerie where we bought freshly made baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolate for breakfast. Last but not least comes the institution Cafe de Flore (172 Boulevard Saint-Germain), a place that needs no introduction. I love coming here for an early breakfast, before the city has woken up or a tea & cake session like we did in these photos, such a great spot for people watching. I hope you enjoy these places as much as I do!
