Tea & cake at 茶亭羽當 Satei Hato

TEA & CAKE AT 茶亭羽當 SATEI HATO. Before our takeoff to Tokyo I made a long list with all the places, cafés and restaurant that I wanted to visit during our 8 days in the city. I had found this super neat and genuine little Japanese café in Shibuya that I was looking forward to visiting a little bit extra. The Japanese people are amazing with preserving and maintaining their culture and traditions but they also love all the big brands from Europe and the US and all the most popular places you can find their you can find in Tokyo as well and the Japanese youth love it. But I didn’t want to go to places that I could easily find in Europe or in the US, I wanted the most real and genuin Japanese experience while being in Tokyo and 茶亭羽當 Satei Hato in Shibuya is the perfect spot to go to if you want a real Japanese café experience. Even though I had prepared all the adresses to all the places we would visit as well as having Google Maps running at all time it still was so hard to find the locations at times. It took us nearly 40 minutes to find this café and we were 5 minutes away at all time while looking for it but after some intense searching we found the door in the little building that would lead us in to this very Japanese and traditional café. The menu is in Japanese so we did our best communicating with our waitress to get the order right, we ordered some different kinds of teas and a banana cake, they are very well known for both their cakes and their coffee. They serve your beverage and dessert on stunning Japanese porcelain, I absolutely loved my tea cup and Johan’s tea pot!

I absolutely loved this little café, you noticed very fast that they do everything with such passion here and they take their profession with such pride. Not like at a stressed café in Stockholm where everything just needs to go super fast. I was watching them while they were preparing my tea and it was a beautiful procedure. The only negative thing is that it is still legal to smoke inside at many cafés and restaurants in Tokyo, I don’t understand why, it feels very 18th century if you ask me and Tokyo is such a modern city in all other aspects. I wish they would ban this immediately. It is so nasty to sit and enjoy your tea and cake while smelling smoke. Luckily we had nobody next to us smoking but someone was smoking a bit further away in the venue and you could still smell it. They have a air cleaner in the café but it doesn’t help that much. If this place would have been smoke free it would have been a 10/10. Hopefully smoking will have been banned from all restaurants and cafés until next time we come to Tokyo! Fingers crossed!

TEA & CAKE AT 茶亭羽當 SATEI HATO.
