Soneva Fushi, Maldives

Photographer: Mon amour

SONEVA FUSHI, MALDIVES. After spending 4 lovely days at the St Regis resort it was time to head to a new atoll and a new resort, after 2 speedboat rides and 2 seaplane rides we arrived at Soneva Fushi.  The first time I went to the Maldives was back in 2012 and I stayed at Gili Lankanfushi which was owned by the Soneva group back then, not anymore though, they sold the property a couple of years ago. I really loved the resort so I was a bit curious to discover more from the Soneva group and that’s why we decided to stay at both Soneva Jani and Soneva Fushi which are the Soneva group’s 2 properties on the Maldives.

The Soneva group’s properties are all about barefoot luxury and sustainable luxury. Working with recycled materials to build the villas and restaurants on the islands. The first thing that you do when you arrive on the speedboat that will take you to the resort is that they ask you to remove your shoes which they put in a bag that says ‘No news, no shoes‘, they will put the bag in your villa upon your arrival if you would decide to wear them again but the whole point is to encourage the guests to go back to nature and feel the sand and the soil under your feet and it’s quite amazing what a difference it makes. Neither Johan or I wore shoes during our entire experience at Soneva Fushi and I absolutely love the concept of barefoot luxury, about going offline and just enjoying the presence and the stunning nature that surrounds you. And after walking on sand for over 1 week your feet were smooth as tiny babie’s feet, it was like one long spa treatment for the feet! Soneva Fushi truly puts you in a different state of mind and you forget all about the rest of the world!

SONEVA FUSHI, MALDIVES.
